Saline Lake (Saline-Larto Complex) Fishing Guide
Choose Saline Lake for classic cypress-water fishing and strong crappie opportunities, with bass, bream and catfish in a quieter part of the interconnected Saline-Larto backwaters.
Saline Lake is one of the principal lakes of the Saline-Larto Complex in east-central Louisiana. It is a natural backwater lake connected to Larto Lake by Saline Bayou and surrounded by cypress, flooded timber, channels and smaller bayous. The larger complex receives backwater influence from the Red, Black and Little rivers, so water level, clarity and current can change substantially. This guide covers the Saline Lake near Deville in the Saline-Larto system and should not be confused with the separate Saline Lake reservoir in Natchitoches and Winn parishes.
Local Knowledge
Best Areas to Fish
Target cypress edges, flooded timber, brush, bayou mouths and channel bends. Crappie often relate to deeper channel structure and woody cover, while bass can use cypress, vegetation, current seams and transitions between shallow flats and channels. LDWF has also established artificial fish habitat in the broader complex.
Best for Beginners
Start close to a known landing and fish visible cypress and woody cover before exploring farther. Small jigs and minnows are dependable crappie choices; soft plastics, spinnerbaits and compact moving baits are useful for bass. Electronics can help locate channel bends and suspended crappie.
Visitor Tips
Saline Lake is part of a connected backwater system. River stages and recent rainfall can change clarity, current, access and fish position quickly. Check current conditions before towing a boat and do not confuse this lake with the separate Saline Lake in Natchitoches/Winn parishes.
