Spring Bayou is the signature fishing water of Spring Bayou Wildlife Management Area in Avoyelles Parish, about two miles east of Marksville. The 12,506-acre WMA lies in a low-lying Red River backwater system, and roughly 40 percent of the area is covered by lakes, bayous, bays and sloughs. Cypress-fringed shorelines, aquatic vegetation and connected backwaters create classic central Louisiana habitat for largemouth bass, panfish and catfish.

Best Areas to Fish
Fish cypress edges, buttonbush, aquatic vegetation, bayou mouths, slough connections and transitions between open lakes and narrow channels. Bass often use woody and vegetated cover; panfish and catfish can be productive around deeper channels and structure.
Best for Beginners
Boggy Bayou is a practical starting point because of the developed launch and fishing pier. Try small jigs or live bait for panfish, soft plastics and spinnerbaits for bass, and bottom rigs for catfish. Navigate unfamiliar backwaters slowly.
Visitor Tips
Spring Bayou is a Wildlife Management Area rather than a conventional park lake. Check current WMA access permits, fishing regulations, road conditions, water levels and launch status before leaving home.

Public AccessYes. LDWF lists three concrete boat ramps on Spring Bayou WMA. Boggy Bayou Boat Launch is reached from Spring Bayou Road, and much of the interior is best accessed by boat.
