Five champions have won Bassmaster’s biggest event on Louisiana water. Get to know the anglers, where they came from and why their Louisiana victories matter in Bassmaster history.
Davy Hite
Hite built a long B.A.S.S. career before becoming a familiar voice on Bassmaster coverage. His 1999 Louisiana Delta championship remains one of the defining wins of his tournament career.
Kevin VanDam
VanDam is one of professional bass fishing’s most decorated anglers. Louisiana is especially important to his story: he won two Classics on the Delta, including his first Classic title in 2001 and his fourth in 2011.
Michael Iaconelli
Known for an intense, high-energy style, Iaconelli captured the 2003 Classic on the Louisiana Delta and later added a Bassmaster Angler of the Year title in 2006.
Skeet Reese
Reese arrived in Louisiana already established as a top professional and left Shreveport as a Classic champion. He is also a former Bassmaster Angler of the Year and an eight-time B.A.S.S. winner.
Chris Lane
Lane’s Red River victory delivered his first Bassmaster Classic crown. Bassmaster lists him as a six-time winner on the Tournament Trail, and the 2012 Louisiana championship remains the centerpiece of that résumé.

The Red River set a Classic field-weight record
In 2009, the Red River field weighed 1,578 pounds, 14 ounces of bass — a Bassmaster Classic record for total field weight at the time. Skeet Reese won with 54-13, only 11 ounces ahead of Michael Iaconelli.
