Basic setup
Sturdy rod, slip-sinker rig, rod holder and suitable bait. Match rod, reel and line strength to the cover, bait size and fish you expect to encounter.
Presentation
Cast toward channel edges, deeper holes, current seams or nearby cover and secure the rod. Reposition periodically if a spot shows no activity.
Public access and current can matter more than casting distance. Never assume undeveloped shoreline is public. On Louisiana waters, pay close attention to seasonal water level, current, vegetation and water clarity because these can change the productive version of the technique from one trip to the next.
