Lake Bistineau is one of North Louisiana's most recognizable fishing waters, stretching through Bossier, Bienville and Webster parishes. Cypress and tupelo trees, shallow flats, channels and abundant woody cover give the lake its distinctive character. Lake Bistineau State Park provides a convenient developed base for anglers, while several other public launches serve different portions of the lake.

Best Areas to Fish
Cypress and tupelo edges, creek and bayou channels, submerged wood, vegetation edges and transitions between shallow flats and deeper water can all hold fish. Conditions change substantially during annual drawdowns, so productive areas and navigable routes may shift with water level.
Best for Beginners
Lake Bistineau State Park is a convenient starting point when its launch is open because it combines access with parking and visitor facilities. New boaters should stay in known boat lanes and slow down around timber, especially when the lake is below normal pool.
Visitor Tips
Lake Bistineau is managed with recurring late-summer/fall drawdowns to combat giant salvinia. For 2026, LDWF scheduled the drawdown to begin August 12. Lake Bistineau State Park closes its boat launch and boat rentals during the drawdown period, while other launches may remain usable depending on water level. Check the latest LDWF and State Parks notices before towing a boat to the lake.
Fishing Access and Amenities
Public AccessLake Bistineau has several established access points. Lake Bistineau State Park on the western shore normally provides two boat launches plus camping, cabins and fishing access. Other documented public access includes Port O' Bistineau, Bossier Public Launch, Grice's Landing and Bayou Dorcheat Public Launch. Always verify current water level and ramp status before travel, especially during seasonal drawdowns.

Boat Launches
Major documented access includes Lake Bistineau State Park, Port O' Bistineau Launch, Bossier Public Launch, Grice's Landing and Bayou Dorcheat Public Launch. During drawdowns the State Park launch closes, while LDWF has identified Port O' Bistineau, Bossier Public Launch, Grice's Landing and Bayou Dorcheat Public Launch as alternate public access. Availability still depends on current water level and local conditions.
