Caney Lake, officially Caney Creek Reservoir, was created by damming Caney Creek in 1986. The lake is surrounded by rolling pine and hardwood country and is one of North Louisiana's best-known bass fisheries. Its coves, creek arms, points, vegetation and deeper structure give anglers a variety of water to fish throughout the year.

Points, creek channels, coves, vegetation edges, docks and deeper structure can all hold fish depending on season. Caney also contains artificial fish-attractor habitat placed to concentrate fish and improve angler opportunity.
Best for Beginners
Jimmie Davis State Park is an easy starting point for a first trip because it combines launches, parking and pier access. Start around visible shoreline cover and points, then use a depth finder to locate channel edges and deeper structure as conditions change.

Jimmie Davis State Park, 1209 State Park Road in Chatham, is the most convenient developed public-access hub on Caney Lake. Louisiana State Parks and LDWF document two boat launches and a public fishing pier at the park. Fishing License Information
A Louisiana fishing license is required when applicable. Caney's former 15–19 inch largemouth bass slot limit was removed in 2018, so anglers should follow current statewide and any current waterbody-specific LDWF regulations rather than relying on older Caney Lake rules found online.
