Cotile Lake Fishing Guide

Why fish here?

Combine a Central Louisiana fishing trip with a developed parish recreation area offering boat access, camping, picnicking and swimming facilities near Alexandria and Boyce.

Cotile Lake is a 1,775-acre man-made freshwater impoundment in Rapides Parish approximately 15 miles west-northwest of Alexandria. Completed in 1965, the lake supports a popular recreational fishery led by largemouth bass, with crappie, sunfish and several catfish species also present. Wooded shorelines, coves, aquatic vegetation and fish-attracting structure give anglers a variety of water to explore.

Local Knowledge

Best Areas to Fish

Bass anglers can work wooded shoreline cover, points, coves, vegetation edges and submerged structure. Crappie anglers can target brush and fish-attracting reefs. In 2024 LDWF deployed 100 recycled Christmas trees at 13 reef locations, including a reef at the fishing pier, to improve habitat for species such as largemouth bass and crappie.

Best for Beginners

Start near the public recreation area and fish visible shoreline cover, points and the fishing-pier reef before exploring farther from the launch. A current lake map and electronics can help locate deeper cover and reef structure.

Visitor Tips

Cotile Lake is close enough to Alexandria for a day trip but also has developed camping for longer visits. Because the recreation area includes swimming and water-skiing activity, anglers should expect heavier recreational traffic during warm-weather weekends.
