Indian Creek Reservoir Fishing Guide
Fish a sizeable Central Louisiana reservoir while having convenient access to camping, beaches, trails, picnic areas and other recreation at Indian Creek Recreation Area.
Indian Creek Reservoir, also called Indian Creek Lake, is a roughly 2,600-acre freshwater reservoir in Rapides Parish within Alexander State Forest near Woodworth, south of Alexandria. The lake combines a popular warmwater fishery with extensive public recreation. Anglers encounter coves, points, shoreline vegetation, standing and submerged cover, and open-water structure that can hold fish throughout the year.
Local Knowledge
Best Areas to Fish
Bass anglers can work vegetation edges, points, coves, creek-channel transitions and woody cover. Crappie often relate to brush, timber and deeper structure, while bluegill and redear can be found around protected shoreline habitat. Hydrilla has historically been an important habitat component in portions of the reservoir, although vegetation abundance can change from year to year.
Best for Beginners
Start near developed access and concentrate on visible shoreline cover, points and vegetation edges. During warmer periods, use a depth finder to locate creek-channel edges and submerged structure. Keep presentations simple until you establish the depth fish are using.
Visitor Tips
Indian Creek is close to Woodworth and Alexandria and works well for either a day trip or camping weekend. Warm-weather weekends can bring substantial boating and beach activity, so anglers seeking quieter water may prefer early mornings and weekdays.
