Kincaid Lake is a 2,600-acre freshwater reservoir in Rapides Parish within the Evangeline Unit of Kisatchie National Forest, west of Alexandria. Clear water, sandy substrate, aquatic vegetation, coves, points and artificial fish habitat support a popular Central Louisiana fishery. LDWF primarily manages the lake for sustainable largemouth bass fishing, while black crappie, sunfish and channel catfish provide additional opportunities.

Best Areas to Fish
Bass anglers can work vegetation edges, points, coves, docks, sandy spawning areas and submerged structure. Black crappie use suitable cover and deeper structure. LDWF and the U.S. Forest Service have built an extensive artificial-reef network, including Dam Reef, Island Reef, Tunk Reef, Trestle Reef, Ski Point, West Ramp Point, East Cove Shelf, East Cove Point, Underwater Levee Reefs and West Ramp Reefs.
Best for Beginners
A first-time visitor can launch at East or West Kincaid and begin around nearby points, vegetation edges and marked artificial-reef locations. Clear water can favor a quieter approach and natural presentations. Use the LDWF reef coordinates and a current lake map to shorten the learning curve.
Visitor Tips
Kincaid Lake lies in the Evangeline Unit of Kisatchie National Forest roughly 20 minutes west of Alexandria. The surrounding forest also offers hiking and wildlife viewing, and bald eagles are known to nest near the lake. Check current Forest Service alerts before leaving home because recreation-site status can change.
Fishing Access and Amenities
Public AccessKisatchie National Forest provides developed public access at Kincaid Lake East Boat Launch and Kincaid Lake West Boat Launch. Forest Service maps also identify fishing piers, boat docks and recreation facilities around the Kincaid Lake Recreation Area. Check current Forest Service alerts because individual recreation facilities can temporarily close while boat launches remain open.

Boat Launches
Two major Forest Service public launches serve Kincaid Lake: Kincaid Lake East Boat Launch and Kincaid Lake West Boat Launch. Both provide developed access and parking. Choose the ramp closest to the area you plan to fish and verify current access before towing a boat to the lake.
Camping and Lodging
Kincaid Recreation Area is the primary developed recreation complex on the lake. Because temporary closures can affect camping or day-use facilities independently of the boat launches, check the current Kisatchie National Forest site status before an overnight trip.
Fishing License Information
A Louisiana fishing license is required when applicable. LDWF management information states that statewide recreational harvest regulations apply to Kincaid Lake. Regulations can change, so check the current LDWF freshwater rules before fishing.
