Fish a convenient Natchitoches-area reservoir with excellent crappie, bass and catfish opportunities, multiple public launches and shoreline access.
Sibley Lake is a man-made reservoir west of Natchitoches that serves as the area's primary drinking-water source while also supporting fishing, boating and other recreation. The City of Natchitoches lists the lake at approximately 2,000 acres with about 38 miles of shoreline. White crappie, largemouth bass and channel catfish are especially important fisheries, with hybrid striped bass, bluegill and redear sunfish also present.

Best Areas to Fish
In February and March, crappie often concentrate near shoreline areas. After the spawn they are commonly found around brush and treetops, then suspend in deeper water during summer and fall. Spring largemouth bass use points and shallow flats, while channel catfish move into shallower water during spring. Hybrid stripers may be encountered when feeding on shad and sunfish.
Best for Beginners
For a first trip, launch from one of the City's documented public ramps and concentrate on nearby points, shallow flats and brush. Crappie anglers can start with jigs or live shiners, while bass anglers can work artificial lures around shallow cover and transitions.
Visitor Tips
Sibley Lake is a municipal drinking-water reservoir, so local lake rules matter. The City says people ages 16 through 60 using the lake for boating, skiing or other water activity should have a recreation permit. The City currently lists the permit at $10 and valid from July 1 through June 30. Check current City information before your trip because fees and rules can change.

Public AccessThe City of Natchitoches documents three public boat-launch locations: Highway 504, Oak Grove Community and old Highway 1 at Sibley Lake Marina. The City states there is no charge for public boat launching. A commercial ramp is also listed at Settles Boat Marina on Highway 6 West. Verify current ramp status before travel, especially after high-water events.

Boat Launches
Public ramps are documented at Highway 504, Oak Grove Community and old Highway 1 at Sibley Lake Marina, with no public launch charge currently listed by the City. Settles Boat Marina on Highway 6 West provides a commercial ramp. Confirm current access and lake level before travel.
Fishing License Information
A Louisiana fishing license is required when applicable. Sibley Lake also has local recreation-permit requirements administered by the City of Natchitoches / Natchitoches Waterworks District #1. Check current LDWF fishing regulations and current City lake rules before fishing.
